Pastors from Ukraine and Belarus recently spoke to our church about what’s happening in their part of the world. They grew up under communist rule and know what it’s like to live under oppression. They told us, “Don’t imagine that we’re just fighting for Ukraine. We’re fighting for you.”
It’s worth your time to watch the full interview with Pastor Allen. Their perspective is important.
In Belarus (which neighbors Ukraine), it’s illegal to invite a child to church. Multiple congregations are not allowed to gather to pray—the police intervene. Their church’s building was taken away for no reason, so their congregation meets in the parking lot, often in subzero temperatures.
That’s a striking contrast to America, where we can proclaim our faith, invite others to believe in Jesus, and worship the Lord freely and without hindrance. Let’s express that freedom in every way possible this Easter week, and pray earnestly for our brothers and sisters who do not live with these precious liberties.
