Many times, a life of significance is expressed in the smallest details. I have memory after memory of my parents inviting people into our home for Bible studies and lives transforming over glasses of sweet tea and slices of pecan pie. Simple hospitality around my mom’s kitchen table seemed like a small thing at the time, but her consistent acts of obedience eventually led to World Outreach Church, which now reaches people around the world for God’s Kingdom.

My mom’s life showed how the actions and prayers of a mother can make a tremendous difference—not just in the lives of her children, but in the lives of those around her.

Let’s pray for mothers:

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating mothers. Thank you for their lives and for the gifts You have given them. Lord, only You know the prayers and sacrifices they offer when no one’s listening. Hear the cries of their hearts. Give them strength and wisdom. Lift them up with Your power and strength. Lord, we invite Your blessings especially on the mothers in our lives today. You chose a specific mother for each of us and commanded us to honor them. Forgive us for the times we have failed to do so, as we forgive their imperfections and shortcomings, too. Bring them Your very best. Grant them the desires of their hearts. Redeem the time they have invested in others, and renew the weary places in their souls. Remember their persistent prayers and quiet tears. Let the small ways they serve in love deliver outcomes of great significance and bring great blessings to their lives. May their willingness to give life be returned to them through the abundant life of Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Though my mom graduated to Heaven almost two years ago, I am grateful for the women I meet who are like her—those who intentionally live out their faith in their families, churches, schools, communities, workplaces, and wherever they go. Their prayers and tireless service show how it’s the small actions in our daily lives that transform the world around us.

Happy Mother’s Day!
