All across America, people are celebrating Independence Day with picnics, barbecues, flags, and fireworks. Before we join the festivities, let’s stop to pray for our nation:
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for our nation. You called it into existence, and we thank You for the heritage of faith we have—the generations of men and women who have called on Your name and followed You. We have seen Your deliverance, time and time again, and we ask that You look upon America with mercy, once again, in our generation.
Forgive us for the callousness of our hearts, the things we have tolerated and accommodated, and the choices we have made. We come today in humility to repent and ask You to pour out Your Spirit upon us afresh. Let righteousness rain upon our nation. Help us to overcome, persevere, and endure. Help us be willing to speak the truth in love so the light penetrates the darkness and the salt restrains the evil we see around us.
Thank You that greater is He who is within us than the spirit in this world. While we may see circumstances that are disheartening, we are not disheartened. While we may see challenges before us, Father, we are not discouraged. The joy of the Lord is our strength, and we know we have been called to this time and this place to lift up the name of Jesus. May we discharge that assignment in such a way that You would be pleased with us.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Almighty God is the One who made our nation great, and He is the One who brings blessings to us. Let’s continue to repent and ask Him to pour His Spirit, His protection, His mercy, and His grace upon us and our nation—once again.
