God has been awakening His people in America since before our nation's inception! The First Great Awakening (1730–1755) led to the American Revolution and America’s freedom. The Second Great Awakening (1790–1840) brought about the foundations of our country and the abolition of slavery. Our early history is filled with the movement of God!
In this video, Pastor Robert J. Morgan discusses the significance of these awakenings with Pastor Allen:

In the First Great Awakening, preachers like George Whitefield and Jonathan Edwards were instrumental with their powerful, compelling sermons that highlighted freedom and personal devotion to God. And in the Second Great Awakening, social reform and fervor were emphasized, with young people swelling the pews of churches and benches of tent meetings across the country. God was surely moving, and He's still moving today.
We hear reports of revival happening on college campuses and other places across our nation. That's a reason to celebrate! A revival means there's a growing movement toward God, and it's typically evidenced by repentance and baptisms. When that revival emerges into an awakening, it transforms culture.
Let's pray for that type of awakening to happen in our generation—for more and more men and women to repent, draw close to God, and discover the freedom and hope a relationship with Jesus offers. Then, may those men and women allow God to use their lives to transform culture with the truth they know.
Revival isn't just part of our past. God has called us to be salt and light in our generation. Let’s pray for God to awaken His people once again!
