Freedom From Worry — Email 5

God’s Word doesn’t just tell us not to worry, He tells us how! One of the clearest instructions comes in Philippians 4:6 (NIV®): Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Prayer and thanksgiving are powerful tools against worry, and they are tools we can and should use often!

When worry begins to creep in, it’s time to move closer to God. Prayer at its simplest is talking to God, so talk to Him about your worries as you would to a friend. Then, begin to thank Him. If you can’t think of things to be thankful for, thank God that He is there, that He is listening, and for all the attributes Scripture tells us God has. Push back on the worry, fear, and discouragement with thanksgiving and gratitude.

Here’s a short prayer, based on Scripture, to get you started:

I will give thanks to the Lord. His love endures forever. The Lord has redeemed me from the hand of the enemy. I will give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds in the earth. God has satisfied my thirst and filled my life with good things. In Jesus’ name, amen.
